Crouch brace puts jinx on Sphinx

Peter Crouch came off the bench to score twice as England came from 1-0 down to beat African champions Egypt 3-1 at Wembley on Wednesday.
Capello's side had left the field at half-time to a chorus of jeers after a Mohamed Zidan strike had handed the visitors a shock, yet deserved lead.
But Crouch - a half-time replacement for toothless Tottenham team-mate Jermain Defoe - netted a deadly double in the second period, either side of a goal for another second-half sub Shaun Wright-Phillips as the Three Lions collected their 500th win at international level.
England made a bright start with Theo Walcott's right-wing cross picking out the run of Frank Lampard, but his first-time shot from 10 yards wasn't struck cleanly and Essam El-Hadary blocked with his legs.
Egypt were soon out of the traps and Defoe had to be alert to clear a Wael Gomaa shot off the line.
But the visitors were celebrating after 24 minutes when the ball was played through to Zidan and the Egyptian forward made the most of a slip by Matthew Upson to sidefoot past Robert Green from just inside the area.
England looked shell-shocked but had chances to equalise before the interval with Lampard again guilty of missing from close range when he scuffed a six-yard volley into the ground and over the bar, before Defoe first saw a header sail just wide and then had an effort on goal well repelled by El-Hadary.
The hosts made a bright start to the second half and were back on level terms after 56 minutes when Steven Gerrard picked out the run of Gareth Barry and his cross was swept home emphatically by Crouch.
The hosts now had their tails up and Gerrard rifled a volley wide, before Wayne Rooney's spectacular overhead effort just cleared the bar. Rooney then saw an effort from a tight angle blocked by El-Hadary, with the striker's effort sailing agonisingly wide.
But England took the lead after 75 minutes when substitute James Milner saw his volley well saved by El-Hadary, but the Egyptian goalkeeper had a moment to forget when he flapped at Wright-Phillips' follow-up and the ball dropped tamely over the line.
And Crouch was at it again on 80 minutes when he was in the right place to finish off a slick give-and-go between Wes Brown and Wright-Phillips.
It was the beanpole striker's 20th England goal in 39 caps to further strengthen his claims for World Cup inclusion and wrap up a satisfying night's work for Capello's side.
